7th Circuit Court of Appeals




Appellate Defender's Office of Illinois

The Office of the State Appellate Defender is a state agency created by the State Appellate Defender Act (725 Illinois Compiled Statutes, Act 105). The principal function of the Office of the State Appellate Defender is to represent indigent persons on appeal in criminal cases when appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court, the Appellate Court or the Circuit Court.





Assessors Office of Cook County
The Cook County Assessors Office is responsible for determining fair assessments on all residential, commercial and industrial property in Cook County. Each parcel is reassessed once every three years. The Assessors Office also administers a variety of exemptions providing relief to Senior citizens and all Cook County Homeowners, as well as incentives encouraging development throughout Cook County.




Attorney General's Office of Illlinois

The Attorney General is the state's chief legal officer as established by the Illinois Constitution. Charged with this responsibility, the Attorney General directs a broad range of services dedicated to protecting and assisting the state and its many citizens.  The Office of the Attorney General leads the statewide fight against crime and violence. Staff assists local state's attorneys in the prosecution of major crimes, provides legal representation to all elected state officials and the departments and agencies of state government, and acts to guard the interests of the people of Illinois.





Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission

The Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission, an agency of the Illinois Supreme Court, is responsible for maintaining current records of registration and discipline information for lawyers licensed to practice in Illinois, investigating allegations of misconduct by lawyers, and prosecuting the cases where a lawyer's misconduct suggests a threat to the public or to the integrity of the legal profession.

The Commission investigates complaints to determine whether discrimination may have occurred, and uses its enforcement powers to punish acts of discrimination. Under the City's Hate Crimes Law, the agency aids hate crime victims. CCHR also employs pro-active programs of education, intervention, and constituency building to discourage bigotry and bring people from different groups together.

Circuit Court of Cook County
The State of Illinois is divided into 22 judicial circuits. Each circuit is a unified court system in which all trial courts are consolidated under a chief judge. The chief judge has centralized administrative authority to coordinate and supervise the functions of the court.
 
The Circuit Court of Cook County is not only the largest of the 22 circuits in Illinois, it is also one of the largest unified court systems in the world. It was created by a 1964 amendment to the Illinois Constitution which reorganized the courts of our state. The amendment effectively merged the often confusing and overlapping jurisdictions of Cook County's 161 courts into one uniform and cohesive court of general jurisdiction.





Circuit Court of DuPage County

DuPage County is home to the 18th Judicial Circuit Court. Excluding Cook County, which is governed by special legislation, the State is divided into 21 judicial circuits, and there is a circuit court for each of these. All circuits other than DuPage and Will consist of several counties. The number of circuit judges and associate judges in each circuit is determined principally by population. There are 15 circuit judges in DuPage and 25 associate judges, who are appointed by the circuit judges.
