 Our Mission The Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area Law Foundation (“AABA Law Foundation”) was established in February 2009, and is a non-profit, charitable and educational affiliate of AABA that is tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). The AABA Law Foundation is managed by an uncompensated Board of Directors. The Board Members are local attorneys who have been active in numerous bar association and law school activities. The members of the Board of Directors are not related. The AABA Law Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws set forth in detail the manner in which authority will be exercised over the activities and operations of the AABA Law Foundation. Specifically, the Board of Directors consists of no less than three (3) members and is a self-perpetuating Board. The AABA Law Foundation does not have a corporate member and no other entity controls its operations. The purpose of the AABA Law Foundation is to organize charitable and educational activities, including, but not limited to, the: (i) granting of scholarships to law students, and (ii) funding or contributing towards grants and fellowships for attorneys working in not-for-profit organizations serving the needs of the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American community. The AABA Law Foundation plans to engage in a variety of activities designed to accomplish the following goals: (a) provide financial assistance to Asian Pacific American law students who have demonstrated academic excellence and social leadership;
(b) support the development of internships and fellowships in the area of public interest and community service relating to the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American community;
(c) assist in conducting legal scholarship and education with respect to legal issues affecting the Chicago-area Asian Pacific American community; and
(d) develop and support programs to educate the legal profession and Asian Pacific American communities in the Chicago-area regarding legal issues affecting those communities.
